About Us

Our Mission The California Center for Innovative Transportation (CCIT) accelerates the implementation of research results and the deployment of technical solutions by practitioners to enable a safer, cleaner, and more efficient surface transportation system. Our Values
  • We commit to user-centered solutions with public benefits.
CCIT, a nonprofit center at the University of California, Berkeley, deploys innovations that are designed with end users in mind, whether they are transportation practitioners or the traveling public. Technology is the means, not the end.
  • We promote teamwork, fresh ideas, and open communication. CCIT believes that individuals with diverse educational and professional backgrounds can make important contributions toward solving transportation challenges. We listen to one another, our partners, and the public.
  • We seek excellence through intellectual honesty and an entrepreneurial spirit. CCIT stresses objectivity and persistence. We look for innovative approaches that target practical outcomes.
Organizational History The California Center for Innovative Transportation (CCIT) was established in 2001. CCIT was originally organized under the California Partners for Advanced Transit and Highways (PATH) research group. CCIT became a stand-alone center in 2003. CCIT and PATH are now independent, sister organizations; both are part of the UC Berkeley Institute of Transportation Studies (ITS). Few (if any) organizations in the transportation field have both research and deployment expertise. As a result, the latest innovation and technology is often unavailable to operational organizations, and researchers may miss opportunities to further develop research ideas. CCIT's existence helps UC Berkeley distinguish itself from other institutions by combining the research and deployment functions under one umbrella.
